摘要Abstract:

A goal of this lecture is to stimulate the motivation of university students to learn mathematics, and to show that, even if not many people actually pursue a career as research mathematician, the study of mathematics opens many professional opportunities, toward a large variety of attractive careers.

I will also explain my personal experience about how and why I chose to learn mathematics, then to become a researcher in mathematics and how, in parallel, I pursued a musical career in jazz music.

In turn I will explain some common aspects that the study of mathematics shares

with the musical activity in general, and with jazz improvisation in particular.

The second part will be a musical interlude with some jazz piano solo pieces, followed by some pieces in duet with guest performer, singer Sonya Pinçon.

The last part will consist of questions of the audience.
